At first, the prospect of having a well-known celebrity at the resort sounds like a coup, but then Mandy learns the truth about her guest. The celebrity has a gritty past and a bad reputation. Crater McMurphy is a known trouble-maker, and more than one of Mandy's employees is uncomfortable with the prospect of meeting up with the man.
When the celebrity is found murdered at the resort, Mandy discovers that more than one of her friends might have had a reason to kill the celebrity. Complicating matters, Mandy's former best friend Jed Link is on the local police force, and he hasn't yet forgiven Mandy for something that happened years ago. Much to Mandy's amusement and Jed's chagrin, she discovers that Jed isn't exactly equipped for his career. Mandy later discovers that Jed's career shortcomings are more tragic than comical, and she works to renew their friendship.
Mandy makes a pact with Jed and the two begin investigating the mysterious circumstances behind Crater McMurphy's death. Mandy discovers that one of her friends has something to hide but is unwilling to come forward with information that might solve the crime. Will Mandy and Jed find the killer before it's too late?
